By following their UXO education classes in elemental schools, students are asked to draw pictures about what are the UXO and how to leave from the bombs. So far around 20,000 among more than 100,000 students in Syengkhung Province, have joined the Contest. The best drawings are awarded with small present.

DEFC Support   3.000US$ per year to supply

paper, crayon, pencil, and to award students have drawn best pictures.

Back Ground  The UXO is a common word showing explosive remains from the Vietnam War. It is said that uncountable numbers of UXO are still alive in Laos, make people danger, kill and injure several hundred people every year. The Lao government has been working against the UXO problems establishing UXO Center.

Xiengkhuang Province is the most seriously contaminated places by UXO. The Provincial Education Office has been implementing UXO awareness education more than 15 years.

Even these days, however, several tenth people are killed or seriously injured by UXO explosion in Syengkhuang every year. Among the victims, more than one half is young children.

Results of this activity

This contest is going well last three times. To evaluate the results, however, seems too early, although the official report about UXO Victims looks like to decrease (above)
